The Ellerntorsbrücke crossing
the Herrengrabenfleet canal in the historic
downtown
district of Hamburg, northern Germany (February 27, 2013).
The Ellerntorsbrücke is named after the Ellerntor, once a city gate next to this bridge (Brücke means bridge). The old city of Hamburg was entered and left through this gate and across this bridge. A placard explains that the Ellerntor gate was erased in 1668.
