The picture shows a view of The Teerhof,
a Weser River peninsula connected by a pedestrian bridge
to Bremen's river promenade,
the Schlachte,
and the city center. Today, the
“Teerhof-Island” is a business and living neighborhood.
Once it was a place where ship hulls and ropes were tarred: the word
“Teerhof” is a compositum of the words
“Teer” and “Hof,” meaning tar and yard,
respectively. While the Hanseat boat is cruising by,
the pirate-themed ship on the right side is well-anchored:
it is an authentic replica of the frigate, which sailed under the
command of Admiral Horatio Nelson. It is named
Pannekoekschip—pancake ship.
On board, you can enjoy pancakes and browse
the Teerhof skyline unless you get
distracted by the pirate-dressed service crew.
