Concordia by local artist Leonard Wübbena

Concordia von Leonard Wuebbena in Emden

An abstract sculpture between Emden's central train station and water tower

Concordia is a sculpture by the East Frisian artist Leonard Wübbena, known for his many works, which he created by combining metal pieces to abstract landmarks. Some of his sculptures look like they want to roll or dance. The public placement of Concordia was sponsored by the local section of the Lions Club in 2011, when it celebrated its semicentennial anniversary. Earlier, “Emden's Lions” gave their city two other sculptures: the fish-carrying girl—Vantje Vis at the Ratsdelft stairways—and the miniature city relief at the harbor gate.

Arriving by train and starting your Emden round trip at the train station, you will first encounter Concordia, located between the memorial steam locomotive and the water tower. Continue your sculpture walk by heading towards the Kunsthalle (Museum of Arts), next to which you will find more sculptures including the bronze ballerina Myrra by Gerhart Schreiter. From there, you may want to continue your walk through the historic city center, to the Emder Rathaus (town hall) and the Ratsdelft basin.
