Grass Lake is a picturesque lake
filling a granite dip a few miles south of
Mt. Tallac
in the eastern
Desolation Wilderness.
The lake is surrounded by granite formations partially covered with
pinemat manzanita and an open conifer forest.
Only along the shorelines of the secluded coves, you will find
grassy bands of vegetation that justify the lake's name.
Grass Lake Falls
can be seen (not in this picture) cascading down the cliffs northwest of
Grass Lake.
The lake can be reached via a 2.7-mile-long hiking trail
beginning at the Glen Alpine trailhead.
