Dick's Peak in the central Sierra Nevada

Dick's Peak

An “obdurate” mountain peak named by copying the nickname of an English sailor turned Emerald Bay caretaker

With an elevation of 9,974 feet (3040 m), Dick's Peak (also spelled Dicks Peak) looms over the glacially carved Desolation Wilderness. Half Moon Lake and Alta Morris Lake, accessible via Trail 17E31, lie at its southeast base. Mark McLaughlin calls this “obdurate mountain a fitting monument to Captain Richard Barter” (see Hermit of Emerald Bay)—since Dick's Peak is named for Barter, an English sailer who found his way to the Tahoe area in the 1860s, where he bacame an eccentric caretaker. He was typically addressed as Captain Richard “Dick” Barter.

To compare the height of Dick's Peak with the heights of nearby peaks, Wikipedia's list of Lake Tahoe Peaks is a great starting point.
