Minden's historic downtown district: the C.O.D. Garage on Esmeralda Avenue

C.O.D. Garage

Next to Schat's Bakery on Esmeralda Avenue in Minden: the C.O.D.Garage (now a casino) with its vintage gas pumps (October 2022)

The C.O.D. Garage in Minden, Nevada, was opened in 1911 by Clarence Oliver Dangenberg, “C.O.D.”—six years after Minden was created as the southern terminus of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. The historical marker on the left side of the central door behind the vintage gas pumps (1593 Esmeralda Avenue) has more details:
Ground was broken for the garage in 1911, with structure additions in 1917 and 1927. The initials stand for the owner Clarence Oliver Dangberg. Later, under the ownership of the Fred “Brick” Hellwinkel family, the C.O.D. garage was the oldest continuous family owned franchised dealership in Nevada. Over the years the company sold Chevrolet, Buick, Ford, Hupmobile, Jeep, Lauson Tractors, Goodyear Tires, offered AAA towing and sold gas under Union Oil and Shell canopies.
The brickwork garage now houses a memorabilia-featuring casino.
