Connecting Boston's recreational trails: Harvest River Bridge

Harvest River Bridge

Harvest River Tied Arch Bridge seen from the Milton side

The Harvest River Bridge spans the Neponset River. Next to the bridge, on the south side, you will find a tablet that features an engravement of the Neponset river course and and its downstream estuary. Also engraved is a river fish with the following text underneath:
The Massachusett Tribe of the Algonquian Nation called the river “Neponset” (Harvest River). In the spring, herring and smelt hurdle the rapids to spawn in the fresh water upstream.
The bridge connects the Mattapan section with the Milton section of the paved path through the Neponset River Greenway. The Milton-side square terrace with its two benches invites bicyclists and pedestrians to take a break and enjoy the riparian setting—and also the aesthetically pleasing design of the tied cable arch bridge with arches colored in lavender—or is it eggplant?
