Pine In The Sand shaping Harvardland

Mound of sand planted with a pitch pine, partially contained by a ring of concrete barriers, Knafel Center and Fay House in the background (March 2020)

The Pine in the Sand is an artwork and a habitat. This installation can be explored in the Wallach Garden in Harvard's Radcliffe Yard, which is used for exhibitions of public art designed by students at Harvard University. Yes, it comes with a hashtag: #pineinthesand. Feel free to use the tools you'll find around the sand pile and respectfully maintain the pine-nursing mound. A panel at the site says:
Pine in the Sand tells a story about unpredictable change while highlighting the often overlooked maintenance and infrastructure enlisted to preserve and stabilize the environment.
