Gerhart Schreiter's Myrra in Emden, East Frisia

Myrra

Myrra reaching for the sky where the “Hinter Tief” meets the “Stadtgraben” of Emden (November 2016)

Myrra is one of three bronze sculptures placed within a small garden setting outside the Kunsthalle Emden, a museum of contemporary art in the City of Emden in northwest Germany. The picture above shows the bronze ballerina Myrra, reaching for the sky over East Frisia on a rainy November day. While the background is dominated by a down-to-earth building of the Berufsschule (career school), which is reflected in the “Hinter Tief” canal, Myrra's body and mind are advancing to the loftiness of higher spheres.

Myrra was created by the sculptor Gerhart Schreiter (1909-1974) in . The letters at the base of the sculpture—Leihgabe Frau Jutta Schreiter—indicate that Myrra's exhibition is made possible by Jutta Schreiter.
