Ratsdelft on a late-November day

Ratsdelft

Ratsdelft seen from the stairway at the town hall plaza (Rathausplatz)

The Ratsdelft is an artificial harbor basin in Emden, a seaport city in East Frisia, northwest Germany. At the end of this basin (from where the photography was made), you will find the Delfttreppe (delft stairway) and the Rathausplatz (town hall plaza) in front of the Emder Rathaus (Emden's town hall). The latter is also named Rathaus am Delft (town hall at the delft)—highlighting its location and reminding us how interwoven city management und sea trade once had been. Today, the Ratsdelft harbors museum ships. The red ship in the center of the picture seasonally offers mulled wine (Glühwein), a common fair on Christmas markets, but occasionally prepared and sold aboard a pierside ship.
